Did you know that one in six people are affected by infertility? Did you know that 1 in 20 babies born in Australia are born from IVF? As one of the 1 in 6, I know that assisted reproductive technology (ART) is an emotional roller coaster. At first, you are filled with so much hope and excitement as you embark on the journey of IVF. You feel optomistic and certain that you will begin IVF and then a baby will be delivered to you. Unfortunately, you quickly learn this is not often the case and those other feelings of uncertainty about whether having a baby will ever happen for you, anxiety and heartbreak begin to take shape.
Despite how common infertility is and how many babies are successfully birthed through IVF, I tend to find that infertility is rarely spoken about and is sometimes perceived as being a taboo topic; but to make it through the journey you need a strong support team; a village you can rely on. So to all of the IVF warriors out there, I see you. And for each of you who bring your little miracles to me for their newborn portraits just know that I truly understand how precious your little one is and just how treasured these memories are for your family.

Ayla's newborn session was so important to me, knowing very well she might be my last baby. I set out to capture every colour, prop, and pose that I loved (fortunately being both mum and photographer meant we weren't limited on time)! Most importantly, I wanted to capture moments together as a family, with her big brother and with both myself and her dad. You can see from the portraits just how loved Ayla is by all of us.
All of these key moments that I set out to capture with my own newborn are included in all of my newborn sessions. I definitely encourage mums and dads to get in front of the camera to capture these moments with your little one; as they really are never this small again.
